Helen Carden Hayes

Nelson, VA Helen Carden Hayes, wife of the late Graham Evans Hayes, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 17, 2020, at the age of 92. She was born in Durham County, NC, on January 29, 1928, to the late Mabel Stubbins and Leo Julian Carden, Sr. Helen was a homemaker, dedicated to caring for her family. She was a member of Averett Baptist Church. Mrs. Hayes is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Ronnie Pulliam of Virgilina; grandchildren, Robin McAlexander, Kelly Ballance, Kirk Hayes and Jodi Valeri, nine great grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Judy Hayes. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by sons, Timothy Graham Hayes and David Brian Hayes, as well as siblings, Mabel Puryear, Elizabeth Traynham, Nan Frederick and Leo Julian Carden, Jr. Services for Mrs. Hayes will be held at 2 P.M. on Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at Hitesburg Baptist Church. The Reverend Ian Rigney will officiate. Due to current health related mandates, the service will be for family only, but will be live-streamed on Watkins Cooper Lyon’s Facebook page.
