Helen Willis Howerton

Helen Willis Howerton, 89, died Tuesday, December 26, 2006 in Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston. She was born September 9, 1917 in Clarksville at her family home to the late Finis Tyler and Helen Goode Jeffress Willis. A graduate of Madison College, Helen was a loving mother and a devoted member of Jamieson Memorial United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be 1PM Friday at Jamieson Memorial United Methodist Church with the Reverend Walt Westbrook officiating. Interment will follow in Oakhurst Cemetery. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph Henry Howerton, Jr. who was owner of Howerton Antiques in Clarksville; brothers, Ralph Willis, who was both a devoted brother and best friend; Carter Willis and Troy Willis. Mrs. Howerton is survived by children, Meredith H. Bowman and husband, Doug, of South Boston; Nancy Kilgore Fuller of Williamsburg; Tyler Howerton and wife, Cathy, of South Hill; and John Howerton and wife, Mary Lorraine, of Charlottesville. Also surviving are grandchildren, Ward Tabitha Burton; Brian Judith Burton; Jeff Kim Burton; David Priscilla Kilgore; Matthew Jocelyn Kilgore; Jonathan Beth Kilgore; Joe Sherri Howerton; Miss Alexis Howerton; and Miss Tyler Howerton; and seven great grandchildren. The family will receive friends 6:30 ? 8:00 PM Thursday at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Memorial Fund Of Jamieson Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 5, Clarksville, VA 23927 or the Mecklenburg County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1539, Clarksville, VA 23927.
