Helen Gupton Bomar, age 80, of Roxboro, N.C., formerly of South Boston, died Sunday, March 4, 2012. She was the daughter of the late E. Graham Gupton Sr. and Nora Royster Gupton and was married to the late E. Thornton Bomar Sr. She was a member of Ash Avenue Baptist Church in South Boston for 48 years. Survivors include two sons, Dennis Blake Bomar of South Boston and Kelly Page Bomar of Roxboro; one stepson, Ernest T. Bomar Jr. of Annandale; one grandson, Dexter Page Bomar of South Boston; and two step-granddaughters, Julie B. Maguire of Astoria, N.Y. and Jamie B. Lewis of Galax. She is also survived by two sisters, Virginia G. Wilson of the Aarons Creek community and Gladys G. Thompson of Richmond; and one brother, Prentice V. Gupton of Clarksville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby G. Overbey; and five brothers, Eugene G. Gupton Jr., William E. Gupton, Douglas R. Gupton, Bobby J. Gupton and Wallace H. Gupton. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Ash Avenue Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. John Eure. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Graveside services will be private.
