Henry Hobgood Gordon, Sr.

Mr. Henry Hobgood Gordon, Sr., 99, widower of Virginia Marrow Gordon and Grace Littrell Gordon, passed away Tuesday, October 01, 2013 in Regency Hospital in Greenville, SC. Mr. Gordon was born August 18, 1914 in Buffalo Junction, Va. to the late George William Gordon, Sr. and Annie Leigh Hobgood. He grew up on the family tobacco farm, working alongside his brothers, George and Vernon. After finishing high school, Mr. Gordon worked in several states as a Service Representative for Sears. His next venture was co-owner and operator of GM Sales, a furniture and appliance company in Danville, Va. before retiring from the real estate business. He loved to buy property, fix-it-up and then sell. He was a "fixer", a "tinkerer", a handyman; and he loved conversation and writing editorials. Mr. Gordon is survived by his sons, Henry Hobgood Gordon, Jr. of Seneca, SC, and Alston Marrow Gordon of Hilton Head, SC; and stepson, Gene Moore and his wife, Betty, of Birmingham, AL. His brother, George William Gordon, Jr. of Buffalo Junction, Va.; grandchildren, Margaret Leigh Gordon Wilson and her husband, Stuart of Tampa, FL.; Stewart Hobgood Gordon of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Henry Marrow Gordon and his wife, Rebecca of Birmingham, AL.; Terri Gordon Armstrong and her husband, David, of Parker, CO and Gwendolyn Marrow Gordon, also of CO; step-grandchildren, William Moore and Franklin Moore and his wife, Raines of Alabama; and six great grandchildren also survive. Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by his brother, Vernon Gordon and sister, Ethylene Gordon Taylor. Funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock am on Thursday in the chapel at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Greg Randall officiating. Interment will follow in Oakhurst Cemetery. The family will receive friends just prior to the service, starting ten o'clock a.m. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.wclfh.com.
