Mr. Henry Hayze Spencer of 1208 Cedar Grove Rd., Alton, VA died Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at the age of 77. He was born in Halifax Co., VA on May 31, 1937 to the late Thomas Butler Spencer and the late Rowena Lowery Spencer and was married to Barbara Reaves Spencer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Burlington Industries after 40 plus years. He was a member of First Crossroads Baptist Church and a lifelong member of Turbeville Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Spencer enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, and working at the farmers market. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Reaves Spencer; two daughters, Tammy Lynn Spencer of Alton, VAand Christy Spencer Hatcher and husband, Tommy, of Alton, VA; a brother, Grady Spencer and wife, Jane of Halifax, VA; two sisters, Alma Elliott of South Boston and Judy Martin of Halifax, VA; and four grandsons, Drew Adkins and wife, Leslie, Eric Adkins, Mason Hatcher, and Colin Hatcher. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John Thomas Spencer and Harvey Spencer; and two sisters, Mozell Chappell and Victoria Lowery. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 2:00 PM at First Crossroads Baptist Church with the Reverend Dan Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 6 from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home.
