Herbert Hoover Overby

Herbert Hoover Overby, 85, husband of Jennie Slaughter Overby, passed away Thursday, October 09, 2014 at his home.Mr. Overby was born April 14, 1929 in Mecklenburg County to the late Lem and Lodema Parker Overby.After serving his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, he then went to work for Burlington Industries in 1951 and remained there until 1973.He farmed until his health prevented him from doing so.In addition to his wife of 62 years, Mr. Overby is survived by his sisters, Frances Williamson of Petersburg, Mary Emma Seate and Laura O. Newton, both of Nelson and Lonie Bet Hite of Virgilina; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Mr. Overby was preceded in death by his son, Ralph Edward Overby, and brothers, Lemmie Lee, Melvin, Wilson and Homer.Funeral services will be 11AM Saturday at Nelson Baptist Church with the Reverend Don Wilson officiating.Interment will follow in the church cemetery.The family will receive friends Friday from 7-9pm at the church and other times at the home.Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.wclfh.com.Flowers are accepted but please consider memorial contributions to Nelson Baptist Church Outreach and the Mecklenburg County Life Saving and Rescue Squad, P.O.
