Hilda Lennon Bass passed away on Wednesday, July 24th, 2024, in South Hill, VA. She was born on Thursday, June 12th, 1930 in Bladen County, NC to the late Oscar Wilbur Lennon and Frankie Lennon. She was married to Lamon Bass for 51 years before his passing in 1998.
Hilda was a graduate of Bladenboro High School and went on to work as a dedicated merchant throughout her career. She started her career in retail at Super Dollar before moving to Peeble's Department Store. Following this, Hilda owned and operated Bass Sportswear for 15 years. In her free time, Hilda dedicating every morning (except Sunday) from sunrise until noon, growing and tending the flowers in her yard. Hilda was a long-time member of Buffalo Baptist Church, renowned for knowing any hymn in the hymnal.
She is survived by her loving children, Lamon Christopher Bass (Rinda) of Eden, NC, Karen Bass Compton of Oxford, NC, and Beverly Bass Evans of Richmond, VA; her grandchildren, Michael Hendrick, Melissa Pearce, Megan Lambert (Ryan), Scott Compton, Ryan Compton, Noah Bass, Addison Bass, and Meesuk Boonyaphron; great-grandchildren, Brittany Pearce (Sam), Tom Pearce (Apple Mae), Shelby Fitzgerald (Brenden), Sage and Berkley Pearce; great-great grandchildren, Lakelynn Fitzgerald, Henry and Leo Seay, and Sabrina and Liam Pearce; and her sister, Joyce Holsinger. She was preceded in death by her sister, Rosalie Clewis; and brothers, George and Billy Lennon.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024 at 11 AM at Buffalo Baptist Church with burial to follow in Buffalo Baptist Church Cemetery. Her Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, July 31, 2024, from 6-8 PM at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Hilda's family asks that donations be made to Operation Christmas Child. Hilda will be remembered for her kindness and generosity. She was a loving mother and friend to many.
