Hollis Hudson Bowen

DURHAM, NC Mrs. Hollis Hudson Bowen, wife of Melvin Hiter Bowen of 53 years, passed away Saturday, May 22, 2021 in Durham, NC.Hollis was born in Virgilina, VA on July 21, 1945 to the late Floyd and Virginia Wilson Hudson. Hollis attended beautician school with Danville Tech and became a beautician; later received special education training at Durham Tech and became a day care teacher. She always loved children and was a grandmother to all the children in her friends circle. A quiet, loving person, Hollis was always kind, soft spoken and generous. She also was an avid walker. In addition to her husband Melvin, she is survived by a son, John Gregory Bowen of Butner, NC; brothers, Hilton Hudson and Ann of Turbeville, Curtis Hudson of Virgilina, Paul Hudson and Sandra of Virgilina and Alan Hudson and Harriet of Virgilina; sisters, Muriel Williams of Virgilina, Linda Gale and Ross of Martinsville and Judy Lee and Winston of Madison Heights; sister-in-law, Erline Hudson of South Boston; numerous nieces and nephews and a very special friend, April Travis of Durham, NC. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, David Hudson; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Hudson. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Hitesburg Baptist Church with Reverend Ian Rigney and Reverend Doug Ballew officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 24 from 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home, 703 Virginia Avenue, Clarksville, VA.
