Mr. Howard Elvin Elliott, 82, husband of Virgie Williamson Elliott, died Monday, November 26, 2007 at his home. The son of Grover Cleveland and Adele Elliott, Howard served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart; operated Sandy Fork Snack Stand and Wayside Restaurant; and worked for Key Construction for 15 years before retiring. During his retirement, he operated Elliott & Son Trucking Co. He was a member of Buffalo Baptist Tabernacle, and former member of the Mecklenburg County Life Saving and Rescue Squad. Funeral services will be 2PM Wednesday in the chapel at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home with the Reverend William Hoover Coghill officiating. Interment will be in Buffalo Baptist Tabernacle cemetery. In addition to his wife of 64 years, Mr. Elliott is survived by daughters, Barbara E. Downy and her husband, Tommy of Buffalo Junction; Judy E. Barker and her husband, Teddie of Scottsburg; and grandchildren, Amy Stallings, Tracey Powell, Chad Downey, Timmy Barker and Cameron Elliott. Also surviving are 5 great grandchildren, and sisters, Nora Jean Talley of Clayton, NC; Margie Hite of Freeman; Rebecca Williams of Chesterfield; and Willie Faye Breedlove and Carolyn Guthrie, both of Richmond. He was preceded in death by his son, Mac Elliott. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
