Mr. Howard Hardey Hammond of South Boston, VA died Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the age of 91. He was born in Reisterstown, MD on July 2, 1924, the son of the late Charles Louis Hammond and the late Mary Dulany (Yellott) Hammond. Hardey was one of four brothers who all served in WWII; he was a radioman at US Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, MD. After the war, he built homes in Reisterstown and Glyndon, including the family home in Glyndon he occupied with wife Doris for 55 years. They were married 70 years before her passing in 2015. He was employed by the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co. in Baltimore, MD and later founded Glass and Mirror, Inc. in Hanover, PA, which he owned and managed for over 30 years. He built fine furniture in his home workshop. After retirement, Doris and Hardey traveled extensively, visiting numerous National Parks and international destinations. He was a generous and kind person, with an easy laughter and abiding love for Doris. He is survived by a son Randy Hammond of Bellevue, WA and a daughter Peggy Hammond and her husband Grant Ellwood of Clover, VA. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Charles Jr, William, and Southgate Yellott "Bud" Hammond. As per family request, no services will be held.
