Howard Berkley Lacks

CLOVER Howard Berkley Lacks of Clover died on August 26, 2021, at the age of 88. He was born on June 19, 1933, to Lottie and Winston Lacks. His wife of 64 years, Ethelyne Hazelwood Lacks, preceded him in death. They had three children, Connie Martin (Ray) of Halifax, Randy Dale Lacks (deceased) and Judy Lacks (Barry, deceased) of Clover. Howard served for 2 years in the United States Army, stationed in Thule Greenland. He was retired from Burlington Industries and lived the majority of his life on his beloved farm surrounded by family. He loved his moma and his cows. Pulling pranks on his “kin folks” was a favorite pastime. Howard never met a baby he didn’t want to tease. Additional survivors are grandchildren, Randy Howard Lacks and Simone of the home, Joni Lacks of Scottsburg, Hollie Lacks of Clover and Joshua Martin (Katie) of Bella Vista, AR; great grandchildren, Kayla (Jeffrey), Kaitlyn, Kendall, Landon, Trevor, Leelon, Layla, River, Ophelia, Malachi and Madelyne; and great-great grandchildren Jeffrey, Nova and J.D.; sisters, Helen Baroody of Chesterfield VA, Sarah Smith (William) of South Boston. He was preceded in death by his sister Juanita Duffer and brother in law Tommy Duffer. Funeral services will be held at 4 P.M. on Sunday, August 29 at Red Level Church of God in Scottsburg with the Reverend Tom Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home from 6 – 8 P.M. on Saturday, August 28. Due to the prevalence of the Covid-19 virus in the community, the family asks that attendees wear masks and socially distance.
