Hugh Martin Haley, Sr. 69, husband of Dorothy Joor Haley, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 16, 2012 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born in Roxboro, NC on November 17, 1942 to the late Jeffrey Jordan and Rosa Dunaway Haley. A graduate of Halifax County High School with the Class of 1960, Hugh furthered his education at Montreat-Anderson College, Bell Haven College and obtained his Masters of Arts and Religion at Liberty University. He served his country in Germany as a Sergeant in the United States Army. A retired Supervisor for Mental Retardation with Southside Community Services Board, Hugh was a member of Alton Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacon baord, sang in the choir and taught the Men's Sunday School class for over 15 years. He loved to fish, garden, and attend auctions. In addition to his wife, Hugh is survived by his daughters, Anna Krista Haley and her husband Punn Wiantrakoon of San Francisco, CA and Amanda Haley Weston and her husband Matthew of Alton; son, H. Martin Haley, Jr. of Fairfax; sisters, Nancy Crews of South Boston, Estelle Miller of Hamilton, OH, Melba York of Norfolk, and Margaret Harris and Shirley Lee, both of Virginia Beach; brother Bill Haley and his wife, Gayle of South Boston; and grandchildren, Will Haley Hood, Emma Haley Hood, and Mason Noah Weston. Nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Hugh was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Haley and brother, Danny K. Haley. Memorial services will be 1PM Saturday at Alton Baptist Church with the Reverends Dennis Ball, Sonny Reeves, and Robin Dunn officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service.
