Mrs. Irene Dunaway Duffer of South Boston died Friday, April 9, 2010 at the age of 86. She was born in Halifax Co. on December 13, 1923 to the late Willie Dunaway and the late Florence Lacks Dunaway Duffer and was married to the late Clarence Edward Duffer. She was retired from Craddock & Terry and was a hairdresser at Irene's Styling Nook. Mrs. Duffer attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Survivors include two sons, Aubrey Duffer and wife, Carolyn and Wayne Duffer and wife, Vickie all of South Boston; seven grandchildren, Michelle Thurnes, Kyle Duffer, Leslie Bohanon, Ernest Walker, Sharon Evans, Shelia Trent, and Kenneth McCormick; and eight great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Bryan Duffer; four brothers; three sisters; and a daughter, Shirley McCormick. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Barbara Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Sunday from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM and at other times at the home of Aubrey & Carolyn Duffer, 1193 Ponderosa Rd., South Boston.
