Irene Lewis Garrett

NELSON, VA Irene Lewis Garrett, 88, of Nelson, widow of Ray Garrett, passed away on June 13, 2016.Mrs. Garrett was born in Halifax County, VA, the daughter of the late Arthur Lee and Mary Jennings Lewis.Mrs. Garrett was most recently (2009) employed at Morningstar’s Bed Bath and Curtain where she was known as “Ms. G” to her customers.She also had worked at Cavalier Cleaners, the Thresher Inn and Conrad’s Restaurant.Prior to this, she was a farmer’s wife, working on the farm and raising two daughters. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas Ray Gregory, four brothers and two sisters.Mrs. Garrett was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. Garrett is survived by two daughters, Barbara G. Clark (Alan) of Nelson and Betty G. Gregory (Henry) of Boydton, two grandsons, David Gregory (Courtney) of Montpelier and Forest Clark (Leah) of College Station, TX, two great grandchildren, Paxton Cole Gregory and Josie Thomas Gregory of Montpelier and step granddaughter, Amanda Clark of Forest, VA. She is also survived by very special nieces and nephews. A graveside service for Mrs. Irene Garrett will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2016, at Grassy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Jim McAlister officiating.Visitation will be Wednesday, June 15 from 7 – 8:30 p.m. at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home, 703 Virginia Ave., Clarksville, VA.
