Irene Jones Gravitt

SOUTH BOSTON, VA Mrs. Irene Jones Gravitt of South Boston passed away Sunday, March 4, 2018 at the age of 85.Born in Halifax County on April 14, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Vangie Jones and the late Annie James Jones and was married to the late Robert Douglas Gravitt, Sr. Irene was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church and attended Mt. Cana United Methodist Church.She was the former director of Mental Health America of Halifax County and a member of the Tuesday Woman’s Club. Her survivors are a daughter, Dianne Holmes and husband, Rev. Randy Holmes of South Boston; sons, Robert Douglas “Bob” Gravitt, Jr and wife, Wanda of Angier, NC, Donald Kevin Gravitt and wife, Janet of South Boston, and James Edward “Jimmy” Gravitt and wife, Tammy of South Boston; grandchildren, Blake Gravitt and wife, Melissa, Denise Stewart and husband, Olan, Derrick Avery and wife, Wendy, Dawn Herring and husband, David, Liza Griffin and husband, Bradley, Amanda Chait and husband, Zack, Cliff Lewis and wife, Theresa, Kyle Gravitt and wife, Jackie, Nekolas Martin and wife, Elaina and Kelly Gravitt; and 13 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Brooks Lyon Betty B. Jones Chapel at 11:00 AM.Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends on Monday, March 5 at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 PM and other times the home of her daughter and son in law, 719 Marshall Avenue, South Boston.
