J. T. Taylor

John Thomas "J.T." Taylor, 74, died Saturday, July 12, 2008 at Duke Hospice in Hillsborough, NC. Born in Mecklenburg County on June 3, 1934, he was the son of Thomas Newton and Virginia Burton Taylor. Civic activities included: Vice-President of the Clarksville Junior Chamber of Commerce; Mecklenburg County Red Cross Board of Directors as Treasurer & Chairman; Kinderton Country Club Board of Directors; Clarksville Town Council; Bank of Clarksville Board of Directors; Advisory Board of Sovran Bank and Nations Bank; Industrial Development Authority; Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission; Mecklenburg County Planning Commission; Mecklenburg County Veterans Memorial Monument Committee; and Duke Homestead Education and History Corporation in Durham, NC as President. Committal services will be 2PM Sunday at Gravel Hill Cemetery. Memorial services will be 3PM Sunday at Clarksville Baptist Church with the Reverend Greg Randall officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. J.T. is survived by his wife of 52 years, Grace Taylor; daughters, Katie Wagstaff and her husband Hunter and their daughters, Jessica and Hillary, all of Durham; Lynn Griffith and her husband Kyle, their son Jackson, of Pawley's Island, SC and son, Jonathan Griffith, his wife Crystal, and their two children, Ethan and Rebecca Lynn, of Andrews, SC. J.T. is also survived by his brother, Bobby Taylor and his wife, Joyce, their son Buddy Taylor and his wife, Michelle and their daughter, Amy Leigh. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Gravel Hill Cemetery Fund, c/o Weston Gupton, P.O. Box 1020, Clarksville, VA 23927; Duke Homestead Education & History Corporation, c/o 2828 Duke Homestead Road, Durham, NC 27705 or Duke HomeCare and Hospice, 4321 Medical Park Drive, Suite 101, Durham, NC 27704.
