Jacob William Overby

Jacob William Overby of Nelson, VA, passed away on December 25, 2022, at the age of 21. Born in Halifax County on July 18, 2001, he was the son of Joe Overby and Victoria Bowman Overby and was married to Rebecca Lynn Overby. Jacob worked for Logan Francis Grading & Excavating. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and running dogs, riding 4-wheelers and dirt track racing. Jacob loved nothing more than sitting around the bonfire circle, hanging with friends, and sharing stories. He loved his family but had a special place in his heart for his niece, Jaciee.

Cherishing many fond memories are his wife, Rebecca; his parents, Joe and Brenda Overby and Victoria Overby and Curtis Keith; his brother, Justin Overby; sisters, Brittany Overby and Crystal Dawn Gordon (James); step-brothers, Wyatt Campbell, Brandon Campbell, Cody Keith; step-sister, Ashley Englebright; grandparents, Denise Hicks, Mary and Tim Dalby, Mike Bowman, and Randy and Debbie Bowman; and great-grandmother, Shelby Kizer. He is also survived by nieces, Jaciee Hall, Brooklyn Gordon, Dallas Hammock; nephews, Connor Gordon and Tristan Campbell, his sidekick, Jeremy Overby aka “Uncle Rocky” and a host of other aunts, uncles and cousins that loved him very much. Jacob was preceded in death by his grandfather, Johnny Overby.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, December 30 in the chapel of Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Overby Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 29 and all other times at 632 Barlow Road, Virgilina, VA.
