James Leroy Capps, Sr.

James Leroy Capps, 78, of Durham died October 23, 2013. Leroy was born March 15, 1935 to the late John James and Mary Carter Capps. In addition to his parents, Leroy was preceded in death by his sister, Ruby Lewter. Surviving are his wife, Sylvia Franklin Capps; son and daughter-in-law Lee and Lisa Capps of Youngsville; Daughter and son-in-law Candace and Michael Glass of Raleigh. Leroy is also survived by grandchildren, Andrea and Dustin Baker, Bradley and Becky Capps and Jeffrey and Blair Capps; great-grandchildren, Mayes, Reese, Cole, Eden, Emersyn, and Ezra; brother, Elmer Joe Patterson of Wilson and cousin, Joseph H. Tucker, Jr. of Clarksville. Leroy was retired President of United Food Commercial Works Union #204; local 204 encompassed NC & SC unionized groceries. He was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church in Durham, serving as Sunday School Director, Pastor Search Committee, Transportation and Youth, and Long Range Planning Committee. He was a member of Scottish Rites, Raleigh Chapter Oak Grove Masonic Lodge #750. He served his country in the United States Army. Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Saturday, October 26th at Faith Baptist Church with the Reverends Roger Wall, Joey Tucker, and Matt Seatin officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, Durham, NC. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 AM in the fellowship hall of Faith Baptist Church. The family will also receive friends on Friday evening at the residence of Candace Glass. The family would like to thank the staff of Croasdaile Village, Duke Hospice, and all of the Duke physicians for their care and compassion for Leroy.
