James Alfred Childrey

Mr. James Alfred Childrey of 2041 Bellevue Rd., Halifax, VA died Friday, September 6, 2013 at the age of 77. He was born in Halifax Co., VA on July 17, 1936 to the late James Robert Childrey and the late Sarah Louise Guthrie Childrey and was married to Sonia Booth Childrey. Mr. Childrey was a retired farmer and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Sonia B. Childrey of Halifax, VA; a son, Michael C. Childrey of Reidsville, NC; a daughter, Lisa C. Eakes of Halifax, VA; four sisters, Betty C. Tuck of Cloverdale, VA, Sarah C. Powell of Scottsburg, VA, Charlotte C. Johnson of Drakes Branch, VA, and Becky C. Allen of Halifax, VA; and two brothers, Thomas Childrey of Lawrenceville, VA and Louis Childrey of South Boston, VA 24592. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Lee Childrey and a sister, Mabel Johnson. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Chapel with Pastor Chris McGee officiating. Burial will follow in Dan River Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Sunday, September 8, 2013 from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home.
