James Edward Cole

SOUTH BOSTON - Mr. James Edward Cole, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at the age of 94, just 4 months after his beloved wife of 73 years, Erselle Elliott Cole. He was born in Halifax County on February 7, 1926, to the late Stonewall Jackson Cole and the late Betty Griffin Cole. James was a wonderful carpenter who worked with Burton Construction for many years. After retiring, he enjoyed gardening. His family attended Black Walnut Baptist Church. He is survived by daughters, Bonnie Lowery (Dean) and Patricia Myers (David); son, Dwayne Cole; grandchildren, Dana King (David), Bryant Lowery (Tracy), Dustin Lowery (Beth), Brad Myers (April), Lori Ashwell (Dave) and Brent Myers (Kassie); and 13 great grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by brothers, Robert Cole (Frances), Junior Cole (Linda), and Scott Cole (Dawn) as well as sisters, Nannie Sue Chappell and Mae Ferrell. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a son, James “Jimmie” Edward Cole, Jr. and sisters, Hazel Peak, Lorene Wade and Barbara Ann Cole. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at Black Walnut Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The Reverend Raymond Wooten will officiate the service. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Black Walnut Baptist Church, Sentara Halifax Hospice, 2204 Wilborn Ave., South Boston, VA 24592, or the Halifax Co. Cancer Association, PO Box 1891, Halifax, VA 24558.
