James Tansel "Sam" Comer

Mr. James Tansel "Sam" Comer of 2172 Old Cluster Springs Rd., South Boston died Monday, October 12, 2009 at his home at the age of 82. Mr. Comer was born in Halifax Co. on February 19, 1927 to the late Walter Green & Lonie Bessie Ford Comer and was married to the late Nora Lee Blanks Comer. He was a retired fork lift operator at ABB and farmer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a member of Glenwood United Methodist Church. Mr. Comer is survived by two daughters, Dorothy C. Bowen and husband, Harold of Virgilina and Sharon C. Wilborn and husband, Jimmy of South Boston; three sons, James D. Comer and wife, Lucille of Virgilina, J. Kevin Comer and wife, Rhonda of South Boston, and Doyle Comer and wife, Robin of South Boston; three sisters, Farris Hudson of South Boston, Anna Glasscock of Buffalo Junction, and Helen Thacker of South Boston; two brothers, Hester Comer and Freeman Comer, both of Virgilina; 10 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, 1 Step Grandchild, and 1 Step Great Grandchild; and a Special Nephew & Care Giver, Kenneth Blanks. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Andrew "Buck", Raymond, Tom, Douglas, and Randolph Comer. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 4:00 PM at North Fork Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Woodfin and Rev. Scott Welch officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home.
