James Robert Gregory

CHASE CITY, VA Mr. James Robert Gregory, Jr. died on Monday, February 22, 2016, at the age of 73.Robert was born September 12, 1942, in Farmville, VA to the late James Robert Gregory, Sr. and Lois Johnson Gregory.He was a 1960 graduate of Bluestone High School, after which he served his country in the US Army.He served as Deputy Treasurer for Mecklenburg County for 7 years prior to being elected Treasurer in 1971.Robert faithfully served as the Treasurer of Mecklenburg County from 1972 to 2007. He served as President of the Treasurer’s Association of Virginia from 1979-1980 and was named Outstanding Treasurer of the Year in 1981 by the Treasurer’s Association. Robert is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Sandra Slade Gregory, his treasured brother, Dallas Gregory and sister-in-law Shirley of Chase City, his cherished daughters and sons-in-law, Renae and Linwood Hayes of Suwanee, GA, and Michelle and Todd Gordon of Clarksville, VA, his stepsons and their wives, Len and Shannon Wentz of Amherst, VA, Shawn and Melissa Wentz of Danville, VA, and Richard Wentz of Danville, VA, his beloved grandchildren, Danielle, Hadyn, and Dalton.Also close to his heart, Gregory and Lisa Wells and all of his much-loved nephews and nieces.In addition, to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brother, Burlin Gregory. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that if you desire to give, donations be made to the charity of your choice.However, Robert believed strongly that charity begins at home.Therefore, in keeping with his belief, please feel free to do something special for someone in your own family in memory of him.We greatly appreciate your thoughts and prayers. Memorial services will be Friday, February 26, 2016, at 4:00 p.m. at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home, Clarksville, VA. The family will receive friends directly after the service.
