Boydton, VA - James Joseph Thompson, husband of Wanda Johnson Thompson, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the age of 71. He was born on April 17, 1947 in Richmond, VA to the late Roy King and Fannie Sue Bowman Thompson. James was a truck driver/owner operator for more than 30 years. He was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church in Boydton, VA. In addition to his wife of 51 years, James is survived by a son Kevin Thompson (Rhonda) of Boydton; daughter Sherri Jones (David) of Red Oak; grandchildren Levy Thompson, Dustin Jones, Ashley Jones and Grayson Jones and a great granddaughter Sophia Thompson. He is also survived by nephews Alan Edward, Jr. of Glen Allen and Andy Ezell of Bracey; brother-in-law Chester Johnson (Janie) of Oxford, NC; sister-in-law Anita J. Chandler of Clarksville and a special cousin, Jean Panther. He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Ezell. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018 in the chapel of Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home, 703 Virginia Ave., Clarksville, VA with burial to follow at Rehoboth UMC Cemetery in Boydton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. The Reverends Ralph Moore and Jane Lyon will officiate.
