James "Jim" Owen King of Alton passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at the age of 73. He was born in Halifax County on June 14, 1950 to Keister Hodges King and Gladys Barfield King.
Jim was a proud member of the 1st Calvary in the United States Army, serving his country during the Vietnam war. He was decorated and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, with two bronze stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and a Sharpshooter Badge for his service. He loved to fish especially fly fishing and riding the golf cart around the farm. He was a 1968 graduate of Halifax County High School and was employed as an insurance agent. Jim was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by siblings, Beth K. Stamper, Becky K. Wilson and Bee K. Puryear (Rennis); children, Jennifer K. Price Seagle, James Owen King Jr, William Hodges King and Jill K. Quinn; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, & nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Ellen King and great nephew, Joshua Williams.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Virgilina Cemetery with Reverend Norman Talley officiating. The family is receiving friends at the home of his sister, Becky Wilson, 1140 Paradise Road, Alton, Virginia.
