James M. "Jimmy" Dawson

Mr. James M. "Jimmy" Dawson of 1090 Dawson Trail, Alton, VA died Saturday, June 27, 2015 at the age of 55. He was born in Halifax Co., VA on April 25, 1960 the son of Kitty Arthur Dawson and the late James M. Dawson, Sr. Mr. Dawson worked at Duke Power most recently with Austin Construction. He was an avid hunter & sportsman, especially bear hunting, enjoyed gardening, and was a South Boston Speedway fan, rooting for Lee Pulliam. Mr. Dawson was a member of Alton Baptist Church. He is survived by his mother, Kitty Arthur Dawson; his very devoted friend, Kara Floan; two sons, James Wesley Dawson and Brandon Gerald Dawson; two daughters, Julia Nicole Merrell and husband, Michael, and Brittany Beaudet; sisters, Bonnie Dawson Vernon and husband, Billy, Phyllis Dawson Bliss and husband, James, and Lisa Dawson Kotula and husband, Paul; a grandson, Trenton James Dawson; special friends, Wesley Whitlow and Monte Thompson, Sr.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Alton Baptist Church with the Reverend Glenn Lutz and Timothy Hackney officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Alton Baptist Church on Tuesday from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM and at other times at the home of his mother, Kitty Dawson, 1141 Dawson Trail, Alton.
