SCOTTSBURG Mr. James Wesley “Hardknocker” Martin, Jr of Scottsburg passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at the age of 69. He was born in Halifax County to the late James Wesley Martin, Sr and the late Arie Snead Martin.He was married to Carolyn Powell Martin for 45 years, who survives. James was a member of Clover Church of God of Prophecy and was the Sunday School Superintendent for years. He was a member of the Allen Trail Hunting Club. James was a family man and loved them all very much. He was very kind and generous, helping anyone with anything. He took pride in his yard; enjoyed farming and logging and was employed as a logger with Steve Toombs. James is survived by his wife Carolyn of the home; grandchildren, Dylan Martin and fiancé Renee Womack and Hannah Martin; great grandchild, Lillian Martin; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Martin; sisters, Lilly May Martin (Eugene) of Dryburg, Eva M. Hazelwood (James) of Scottsburg and Nora M. Pixley of Roxboro, NC; brothers, Bennie Martin (Donna) of Clover and Thomas Martin (Amy) of Scottsburg. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Martin; sister, Shirley Martin Paxton and a brother, Kyle Lee Martin. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home, South Boston with Pastor David Smith officiating and Pastor Ken Warfield assisting. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Scottsburg. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 17 from 6 until 8 PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home.
