James Venable “Rusty” Massingill, 75, of Clarksville, VA, died Tuesday, April 4th, surrounded by his family. Rusty was born on May 27th, 1941, to James Horace & Vivian Lawson Massingill.He is survived by his wife Helen Hutcheson Massingill; his children, Michelle Massingill Cormack (Todd), John S. Massingill (Heather), Betsy Massingill Kessler (Matt); and 6 grandchildren Lucinda, Gretchen and Austin Cormack, Jack and Read Kessler, and Megan Massingill. Rusty graduated from the University of Alabama, served as an oceanographer with the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC, was President of the Old Wagon Factory and a teacher with the Mecklenburg County School System.He was an active member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church and served the community as a member of the Clarksville Town Council. A service is being held at St. Timothy’s Church at 11:00am on Saturday, April 8th.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Timothy’s Church, 111 6th St. Clarksville, VA 23927.
