James Daniel Nelson

ROANOKE, VA Mr. James Daniel “Jamie” Nelson, III of Roanoke, VA passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at the age of 43. He was born in Halifax County on October 10, 1976, the son of James Daniel Nelson, Jr. and Patricia Dixon Lewis. Jamie was employed as a chef with several different restaurants in Roanoke and formerly employed with Atlantic Credit and Finance in Roanoke. His passion was cooking and made many friends in both jobs.He loved football, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers.Jamie always had a smile on his face, never met a stranger and always wanted to make people happy. He is survived by his father, James Daniel Nelson, Jr and wife, Cynthia of Danville, VA; his mother, Patricia Dixon Lewis and husband, Wayne of Alton, VA; brother, Gregory Alan Nelson and wife, Donna of Timberlake, NC; sister, Amy Lewis Hilliard and husband, Will of Greenville, NC; brother, Troy Neil Lewis and wife, Crystal of Norlina, NC; numerous aunts and uncles; a host of cousins, nieces and nephews; and countless specialfriends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James D. Nelson, Sr. and Mary P. Nelson and his maternal grandparents, Conway Dixon and Thelma Dixon Toombs. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at 3:00 PM in the Brooks Lyon Betty B. Jones Chapel with Reverend Daniel Whitt officiating. The family will receive friends at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home, from 2:00 PM-3:00 PM, prior to the service on Sunday.
