James D. "Jimmy" Reaves

Mr. James D. "Jimmy" Reaves, Sr. of Greenacres, FL, formerly of South Boston, VA, died Sunday, May 1, 2011 at the age of 94. He was born on June 13, 1920 in Halifax County, VA the son of the late Oscar L. Reaves and the late Mary Melissa Turner Reaves and was married to the late Mildred Betterton Reaves. Mr Reaves was a retired electrician for Dominion-Virginia Power and a Veteran of the U. S. Army. He was a member of Dan River Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 8, where he was a former Commander and served on the Honor Guard. Mr. Reaves is survived by, two daughters, Janice R. Carmelo and Brenda G. Reaves both of West Palm Beach, FL; one son, James D. "Danny" Reaves, Jr. of Scottsburg, VA; Seven grandchildren, Justin Saunders, Graham Saunders, Ann Marshall Saunders, Lori Reaves Vogt, Michael Reaves, Andrew Reaves, and Ben Reaves; and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and one grandchild, James Daniel Reaves, III. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 6, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Dan River Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at the American Legion Post 8 following the service on Friday. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home Thursday, May 5 from 7 until 8:30 PM.
