James Harrison "Jimmy" Vassar

SOUTH BOSTON Mr. James Harrison “Jimmy” Vassar passed away at his home on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the age of 72. He was born on November 4, 1947 in Halifax County to the late Edward Vassar and the late Jeanette Elliott Hazelwood.Jimmy was married to Peggy Lloyd Vassar, who survives. Jimmy had a love of the outdoors, fishing with his friends, camping, cooking and gardening. He was very proud of his special tomatoes. Jimmy was retired as a mechanic with Virginia Department of Transportation. Left behind to cherish his memories is his wife, Peggy; sisters, Gaynell Wade and husband, Wayne, Sue Lacks and husband, Cecil, Donna Chandler and husband, Jonathan; brothers, Ira Hugh Vassar, Floyd Vassar and wife, Peggy and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and special friends too numerous to count. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jamie Vassar; and brothers, Jan Vassar and Ronnie Vassar. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, October 2, 2020 at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Tim Mull officiating. The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the home.
