James Alvin Vernon

Mr. James Alvin Vernon passed away Wednesday January 8, 2025 at the age of 80. Born in Halifax County on October 28,1944 he was the son of the late T.A. Vernon and the late Myrtle A Williamson Vernon.

He was a retired from ABB’s engineering department in South Boston and was one of the first hires at Westinghouse.  He served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was a member of the American Legion Post 8.

James loved to go dancing on the weekends, was an avid reader, and enjoyed tinkering with electronics.

James is survived by his three children; Holly A. Bernard (Bryant) of Danville, Virginia; Jason N Vernon of Alton, Virginia; and Kevin J Vernon-Harris (Joe Coraggio) of Chandler, Arizona; and special friend, Mildred Brooks. He was preceded in death by his brother, Owen Smith Vernon.
