James William "Billy" Reaves of South Boston passed away at his residence on Monday, April 22, 2024 at the age of 89. Born in Halifax County on December 14, 1934, he was the son of the late Beverly Averette Reaves and Sally Ford Reaves. He is survived by his wife, Jean Ford Reaves.
Billy loved baseball, gardening, yard work and car racing. Billy and Jean enjoyed watching their granddaughter and grand nieces play Dixie Softball and grandson playing golf. They would also go to the Daytona 500 race every year. A member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church, he loved all of his church family. His family was very dear to him and loved them all, especially he loved his grandchildren. Billy was retired as a phone service technician with Centel.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; daughter, Beverly Cook (Les); son, Jimmy Reaves (Cheryl); grandchildren, Jimmy Reaves III and Alexis Nicole Jacobs (Jonathan); siblings, Lewis Reaves (Ann), Fred Reaves and Judy Yates (Albert) and many other family members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Averette Reaves, Barksdale Reaves, Cecil Reaves and Gladys Pool.
A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Shady Grove United Methodist Church with Reverend Mike Russell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, 2 PM - 3 PM at Shady Grove.
