SUTHERLIN, VA ******Funeral service has been postponed until Friday at 2PM at Kerns Memorial U.M.C.******* Mr. James Thomas Watson, Sr. of Sutherlin, VA passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at the age of 90. He was born in Danville, VA on October 16, 1924 to the late Matt Thomas Watson and the late Maggie Bell Hinton Watson. Mr. Watson was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II serving in the 32nd Red Air Division in the Philippines. He was a farmer until his children were grown then worked for Brown & Root Construction Co. out of Texas for many years. Mr. Watson was a member of Kerns Memorial United Methodist Church. Survivors include four daughters, Phyllis Newnam and husband, Bruce of Raleigh, NC, Sue Williamson of Sutherlin, VA, Carolyn Faye Dodd of Blairs, VA, and Barbara Price and husband, A.J. of South Boston, VA; four sons, Tommy Watson and wife, Nancy, Bruce Watson and wife, Robin, Ray Watson and wife, Terri, and Glenn Watson and wife, Lisa, all of Sutherlin, VA; a brother, Elmer Watson and wife, Patricia of Sutherlin, VA; 18 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 2 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Helen Forsyth Watson, his parents, a brother, Jack Wiseman Watson, and a son-in-law, C.C. Dodd. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Kerns Memorial United Methodist Church with the Reverend Kelly Hawkins and the Reverend Tim Satterfield officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Danville, VA. The family will receive friends at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 25 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 Pm and at other times at the home of Glen and Lisa Watson, 2228 Mercy Seat Rd., Sutherlin, VA. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to Kerns Memorial United Methodist Church, 3860 Kerns Church Rd., Sutherlin, VA 24594.
