James Flournoy Yancey

Mr. James Flournoy Yancey of 1034 Cluster Springs Rd., South Boston died Monday, February 28, 2011 at the age of 81. He was born in Halifax Co. on March 28, 1929 to the late Charlie Pete Yancey and the late Susie Conner Chaney and was married to the late Audrey Irene Lowery Yancey. Mr. Yancey was a member of Black Walnut Baptist Church and was a lifetime member of the Cluster Springs Vol. Fire Dept. and the Cluster Springs Ruritan Club. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for VDOT - Cluster Springs Division. Survivors include a daughter, Tammie Yancey Conner and husband, Jimmy of Scottsburg; a son, Larry Yancey and wife, Brenda of South Boston; two sisters, Florine Roark and Shirley Puryear, both of South Boston; two granddaughters, Lydia Yancey Vernon and husband, Scott and Laci Conner Compton and husband, Rickie; a grandson, Kenneth Wayne Conner; three great grandsons, Drake Wes Clardy, Dawson E. Compton, and Seth Vernon. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and four sons, Donald Yancey, Teddy Yancey, Dwight Yancey, and Mitch Yancey. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Black Walnut Baptist Church with Rev. Raymond Wooten and Rev. Larry Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Black Walnut Baptist Church Tuesday March 1, 2011 from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home.
