James Henry Zimmerman

SEMORA, NC - James Henry Zimmerman, Jr. "Junior", 90, of Semora, NC passed away on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016 at Durham VA Medical Center in Durham, NC. He was born in McGhee's Mill of Person County, NC on May 6, 1926. Mr. Zimmerman was the son of the late James Henry Zimmerman Sr. and Lucy Faulkner Zimmerman. He was married to Mary O'Briant Zimmerman. He was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church and was a retired plumber of fifty years. He served with Company B, 34th Infantry Regiment, 24th Division in the Philippine Islands. He received the Asiatic Pacific service medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, Philippine Liberation Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Occupational Medal APT for his service in the US Army. He is survived by a daughter, Sandra Zimmerman Long and husband, Melvin of Alton, VA; a son, Gary Zimmerman and wife, Darlene "Lee" of Keaau, HI; two granddaughters, Tracy Long of Vero Beach, FL and Miranda Long of South Boston, VA; one great granddaughter, Lauren Long of Vero Beach, FL; four sisters, Louise Smith and husband, Raymond, Grace Parker, Nannie Mae Lipscomb, and Alice Whitfield, all of Roxboro, NC; and one brother, Earl Zimmerman and wife, Lillie Mae of Graham, NC. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Zimmerman Sartin. Visitation will be at Ephesus Baptist Church in Semora, NC at 2 PM on Oct. 20, 2016 with a graveside military service at 3 PM in the church cemetery. Rev. Richard Long will be officiating.
