Janice Hammock Young

Mrs. Janice Hammock Young passed away on January 28, 2021, at her home, at the age of 76. Janice was born in Wake County, NC on March 13, 1944, the daughter of the late James Hammock Sr. and the late Maudie Pendergraph Nash. She was a member of Florence Avenue Baptist Church. Janice was a graduate of Halifax County High School class of 1964. She worked for Dr. Richardson and Dr. Ah in the medical field, prior to that she worked in banking and retail. She was an avid reader, and antique collector. She loved people, and never met a stranger. Survivors include a beloved husband of 60 years, Jerry Wayne Young; Two sons, Anthony Wade “Tony” Young of Virgilina, and Phillip Brad Young (Tanya) of South Boston; Two sisters Wilma Grey Creech of Louisburg and Rose Wann of Danville; Four brothers, Aubrey Moore of Wake Forest, Johnny Moore of Louisburg, Ray Moore of Youngsville, and James David Hammock Jr. of Raleigh. She was predeceased by a sister, Nancy Faye McDaniel. The family would like to express their gratitude to Sentara Halifax Hospice for their excellent care, especially Kelly Smithnowsky. A service will be held on Saturday, January 30th at 2pm inside the Brooks Lyon Chapel with the Reverend Herbert Brown officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1pm until 2pm. Interment will follow at Virgilina Cemetery.
