SOUTH BOSTON Jean Mitchell Wooten of South Boston passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at the age of 81.Jean was born in Halifax County on February 13, 1941 to the late John Newcomb and the late Ellen Seamster Hightower.She was married to Douglas Wooten, who survives. Jean loved flowers, her pets, the beach, shopping and going to the 360 dance on Saturday nights. She was very devoted to her family and grandchildren. Jean is survived by her husband, Doug; children, Rita Hudson of Halifax, Sandra Newcomb (Bobby) of Victoria, Mark Hudson (Penny) of South Boston, John Hudson (Rebecca) of Roanoke, and Ann Hudson (Clifton) of South Boston; stepchildren, Shelia Cox (Mark), Tia Bowes (Chase), James Mitchell III (Debbie), Bryan Mitchell (Dana), Valerie Mitchell, Cheryl Hill (Jim); grandchildren, Mackenzie Newcomb, Vince Nichols, Holly Rutledge, Chris Rutledge, Shelley Laws, Tyler Hudson, Jonathan Hudson, Brandon & Lyndsay Morris; step grandchildren, Aubrey Bowes and Makayla Wooten; great grandchildren, Waverli Martin, Zayne, Julyan, Treasury Rutledge, Jayden Laws and Camden Goodson. She was preceded in death by brothers, Glenn Newcomb and Raleigh Newcomb; daughter, Debbie Powell Martin; stepson, Robert Mitchell; granddaughter, Kelly Martin, and husbands, Charlie Powell, Kent Hudson and James Mitchell. Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Clover Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 12 Noon - 2 PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.brookslyon.com.
