HALIFAX - Mr. Jerry Lee Cranford of Halifax, VA died Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the age of 80. He was born on August 26, 1935 in Tarboro, NC to the late Roy Franklin Cranford, Sr. and the late Minnie Minton Cranford. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Jean Richardson Cranford. He was veteran of the U.S. Army and the Virginia National Guard Headquarters Battery 1st 246 Field Artillery Battalion. He was a supervisor at J.P. Stevens, attended Southside Baptist Church, and was a former member of the Halifax Co. Rescue Squad. Jerry played football on the first Halifax Co. High School Comets team and was a big fan of football. Mr. Cranford is survived by his daughters, Sharon Boyd and husband, Glenn of South Boston, VA, and Cynthia Cole of Halifax, VA; sisters, Juanita Gant of Taylorsville, NC and Mildred Bowen of Richmond, VA; brothers, Roy Cranford, Jr. of Canada, George Cranford of Richmond, VA, and Ronnie Cranford of Taylorsville, NC; grandchildren, Christy Pinnix, Brian Lowery, Emily Lowery, Erik Cole, Evan Cole, and Heather Cole; step grandchildren, Richard Boyd, Meredith Boyd, Lauren Boyd, and Nolan Boyd; and great grandchildren, Tyler Bagbey, Christopher Bagbey, Sarah Pinnix, Brooke Pinnix, Starlyn Campbell, Tristan Lowery, Ryland Lowery, Caleb Lowery, Nathan Campbell, and Memphis Cole; and step great grandchild, Gavin Boyd. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and siblings, Milton Cranford, Robert Cranford, Mary Bain, Joyce Whitt, and Clifton Cranford. A graveside memorial service with military rites will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Halifax Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Don Bryant officiating.
