Mr. Jerry Mack Lewis of 700 Wolf Pit Rd., Oxford, NC, formerly of South Boston, VA, died Monday, August 4, 2014 at the age of 94. He was born in Halifax Co., VA on March 12, 1920. Mr. Lewis was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WW II. A member of the Battery C 470th Anti-Aircraft Division, he received 2 Bronze Service Stars in the Philippine Liberation and 4 Bronze Stars in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of Berry Hill Presbyterian Church and American Legion Post 8. Mr. Lewis worked as a machine operator at U.S. Plywood for 33 years. He worked as a crossing guard for Washington Coleman and South Boston Elementary Schools, as a security guard for ABB and Daystrom, and early in life as a body repairman. Survivors include a son,Jerry Mack "Jay" Lewis, Jr. and Rochelle Daniels of Midlothian, VA; a daughter, Cynthia Poole and husband, Ronald of Oxford, NC; eight grandchildren, Stephanie Stone, Jamie Lewis, Christen Martin, Jared Lewis, Lyndsey Lewis, Chelsea Poole, Brandon Poole, and Phillip Poole; and six great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Norman Talley and Rev. Troy Rust officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens with full military rites. The family will receive friends at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home for one hour prior to the service on Saturday and at other times at the home of Cynthia and Ronald Poole, 700 Wolf Pit Rd., Oxford, NC.
