Mr. Jesse James Harris of 4061 River Rd., South Boston died Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the age of 85. He was born in South Boston on March 22, 1925 to the late Jessie W. and Mary Davis Harris and was married to the late Virginia Yancey Harris. Mr. Harris was retired builder and farmer and was a member of Second Baptist Church. He was US Army veteran of WW II participating in many major battles including D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge until the end of the war in Europe. He was a part of the 9th Division, 60th Infantry, Company K. Survivors include three sons, Mike Harris and wife, Elizabeth H. of South Boston, Jimmy Harris and wife, Tina L. of South Boston, and Dale Harris and wife, Susan L. of Chesapeake; brother, Melvin Harris of Maysville, NC; sister, Eva Strickland of Winter Garden, FL; and grandchildren, Barry Harris, Tracey Harris, Brandy Fowler, Charles A. Harris, Samantha L. Harris, and Cody L. Harris. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Henry Harris and Earnest Harris, and sisters, Edith Goode, Hazel Harris, Virginia Pridgen, and Jedi Mae Moser. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Second Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Linderman officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home Tuesday, December 28, 2010 from 4:00 PM until 5:30 PM. The family respectfully requests visiting at funeral home only.
