Jessie Lanier Bowers

SOUTH BOSTON Jessie Lanier Bowers, husband of the late Mary Emma Sparks Bowers, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2019, at the age of 83. He was born in Alleghany County on November 13, 1935, the son of the late Ray William and Ida Bess Bowers. Mr. Bowers was a retired employee of J.P. Stevens and enjoyed woodworking and remodeling houses. Mr. Bowers is survived by his children, Leon Bowers, Stacy Bowers, both of Bedford, and Jessie Ray Bowers of South Boston; stepsons, Everette Farriss and Eddie Farriss; brother, Billy Boone of New Castle; sisters, Pearl Mayo of Daleville, Wanda Whiting of Covington, Violet Paxton of Covington, Barbara Grimm of New Castle, Dorothy Bowers of Roanoke, Ruth Bowers of New Castle, Nita Campbell of Vinton and Jewel Hodges of Salem; and special grandsons, Justin Bowers, Matthew Bowers and Nicholas Bowers. He is also survived by a host of other grandchildren, great grandchildren, other family members, special friends, and his beloved pet, CoCo. A special thanks to family friends Melonee, Malena, and Brandon for their loving care. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2019 from 2 – 5 P.M. at Mr. Bower’s residence.
