Jimmy Ray Powell

July 24, 1944 — January 12, 2022

Jimmy Ray Powell of South Boston died on January 12, 2022, at the age of 77. He leaves behind his wife, Linda, of 52 years; their children, Jimmy (Kim), Barry (Shannon), Tiffany and grandchildren, Alexandra, Vanessa and Brayden. HIs surviving sisters are Judy Glass, Faye Trent and Betty Greer. He is preceded in death by his brother, Wayne. Ray was an active member of Grace Baptist Church for over 40 years, serving as a deacon and a member of the Adult Mission Class. He was a veteran of the armed services and a lover of classic cars, especially Chevrolet pickup trucks. He was most recognized in his 1970 Chevrolet truck, affectionately referred to as "Ole Blue", that he still owns to this day. May he rest in peace in heaven with his favorite uncle, John, who recently went to be with the Lord also. A Celebration of Life for Ray will be held at 2 P.M. on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Grace Baptist Church with Reverend Jack Stewart officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church before the service beginning at 1 P.M. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.brookslyon.com.
