SOUTH BOSTON Jimmy Lee Wilborn, 72, of Old Cluster Springs Road, South Boston, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020. Jimmy was born March, 19, 1948 the son of the late George Elwood Wilborn Sr. and Lessie Morris Wilborn. He was a lifetime member of Glenwood United Methodist Church, retired from ABB after 30 years of service at age 55, a member of Tinkers Car Club and Lawson Creek Hunting Club. Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and working at the Cluster Springs Ball Field. Jimmy was a self taught mechanic and his prize accomplishment was his recent restoration of his 1955 Chevrolet convertible. Jimmy was also a United Methodist lay speaker and previously served on the board for The Good Samaritan. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Sharon Comer Wilborn; his daughters, Lezlie W. Bryant and husband Steven of Virgilina, and Amanda S. Benedict and husband Michael of Atlanta, Georgia, grandchildren Conner Bryant, Griffin Bryant, Ryleigh Bryant, Noralee Benedict and Mason Benedict; two brothers, William J. Wilborn, and wife Brenda, George Wilborn and wife Ruth; his sisters, Elsie Reaves, and husband Allen, Mary Rachel Combs, Mattie Thrower and husband Wayne; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, two sisters, Clara Thaxton and Ruby Manning preceded him in death. Due to Covid restrictions the public may pay their respect at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home on Wednesday Dec. 30 from 12:00 PM-8:00PM.A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020, at Sunnyview 1894, 7005 Huell Matthews Hwy, with Pastor Joe Trickey Jr. and Dr. Virginia Jones officiating. The family is receiving friends during all other times at the home.
