Joan Hite Bowen

Buffalo Junction, VA Joan Hite Bowen, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2020.She was born on November 13, 1935, in Buffalo Junction, Virginia to the late Overland Grey and Rosa Griffin Hite.Joan went to Clarksville High School and after graduation joined Burlington Industries, where she worked and retired from after 40 years.She was married to late Carlton S. Bowen for 50 years and they had one son, Russell Carlton Bowen. Joan’s favorite pastime was NASCAR. She was an avid fan, attending races for over 50 years.She ultimately earned the nickname, “Fireball”, given to her by family that she went to the beach with for over 20 years. She was a NY Yankee baseball fan and never hesitated to pick up a bat and glove to play with her grandchildren. Joan is survived by her son, Russell, and his wife, Lauren; grandsons, Tyler, Zach, and Cole Bowen, niece, Karen Hite Overton, and many other family members.She was preceded in death by her husband and parents as well as a brother, Ryland Hite. A private service will be held for family members.
