Joe Lennie Jenkins

SOUTH BOSTON, VA Mr. Joe Lennie Jenkins, Jr., husband of Loretta Whittington Jenkins, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at the age of 82.Born in Halifax County on September 13, 1936, he was the son of the late Joe Lennie Jenkins, Sr. and Martha Arrington Jenkins Gordon. Joe was a graduate of Halifax County High School, Class of 1956. He was employed as a funeral director with Brooks Funeral Home for 57 years, and the last 6 years with Powell Funeral Home. Early in his life he worked with South Boston Fire Department and is a lifetime member of the South Boston Fire Company. He was a member of Dan River Baptist Church; Hyco Rd. Ruritan Club; and former president of Lion’s Club. In addition to his wife, Loretta, he is survived by a son, Joe L.“Joey” Jenkins, III; sister, Ann Parker and husband, John of Wilmington, NC and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Vicki Jenkins. Funeral Services will be Friday, May 17, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Brooks Lyon Betty B. Jones Chapel with Reverend Dave Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in Grace Baptist Church Cemetery.The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 16, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home and other times the home of his son, 1162 Loftis Road, South Boston, VA.
