Joe Thomas Newcomb

SOUTH BOSTON - Mr. Joe Thomas Newcomb of 1332 Moore St., South Boston, VA died Saturday, August 22, 2015 at the age of of 72. Mr. Newcomb was born in Halifax Co., VA on February 13, 1943 to the late Mason Newcomb and the late Lizzie Powell Newcomb and was married to Shirley Layne Newcomb. He was a security guard at Burlington Industries for many years and loved fishing and NASCAR. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Layne Newcomb of South Boston, VA; stepchildren, Marcia Marie Lacks, Ronald Perkins, Brenda Perkins, David Perkins, all of South Boston, and Steven "Butch" Guthrie of Chase City, VA; fourteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister, Graveside services will be held on Monday, August 24, 2015 at 11:00 AM in Mt. Laurel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Ray Perkins officiating. The family will receive friends at the home.
