South Boston Mr. John Joseph Alvis of South Boston passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at the age of 88.He was born in Goochland, VA on September 6, 1929, he was the son of the late Eugene Franklin Alvis and the late Maude Sharp Alvis and was married to Betty Branch Hall Alvis. John attended Centerville Baptist Church and was a retired electronics salesman.In addition to his wife, Betty, he is survived by sons, Richard Hall of Sandy Ridge, NC and Jeffrey Hall and wife, Christina of Kernersville, NC; step daughter, Linda Henessey and husband, Mike of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Brandon Norris and Ashley Brady; great grandchildren, Landon Norris and Aiden Norris; brother, Charles Alvis; sisters, Sally Alvis, Evelyn Alvis, and Barbara Kuntze; and numerous other family members. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret May of Chesterfield, VA. and brothers, Harry Alvis and William Alvis. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Brooks Lyon Betty B. Jones Chapel at 11:00 AM with Pastor Todd McClure officiating. The family will receive friends after the service and other times at the home, 3207 Cluster Springs Road, South Boston, VA.A private burial will be on in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia.
