John "Buck" Randolph Thompson

Boydton, VA - John “Buck” Randolph Thompson, Jr., husband of Patsy Faulkner Thompson, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at the age of 82. He was born on July 20, 1936 in Mecklenburg County to the late John Randolph Thompson, Sr. and the late Nellie Bennett Thompson. Buck was a graduate of Boydton High School. He worked for 32 years as a supervisor at Virginia Homes in Boydton. In addition, he farmed and was a “professional piddler”, who could fix just about anything. He enjoyed carpentry and wood working and was also an avid collector. Buck was a member of Buffalo Baptist Tabernacle for 54 years. Cherishing his memories are his wife of 56 years, Patsy; sons John Michael Thompson of Apex, NC and Kenneth Wayne Thompson (Emily) of Greensboro, NC; daughter, Karen Hall (Tom) of Apex, NC; sisters, Lucille Barker of Richmond and Elva Matthews of Chase City; grandchildren Sara Hall, Will Thompson and Charlie Thompson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Buck was preceded in death by 6 sisters and 1 brother. The family will receive friends at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home on Sunday, April 14 from 6 – 8:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 15 at Rehobeth UMC Cemetery. The Reverends Bill Weeks and Billy Coghill will be officiating. The family would like to thank all of Buck’s caregivers at VCU Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill and especially his physician, Dr. Susan Hundley.
