John Shelton Fletcher

Mr. John Shelton Fletcher of 1050 Eighth St., Virgilina, VA died Sunday, May 10, 2015 at the age of 84. He was born in Halifax Co., VA on November 1, 1930 to the late Arthur Fletcher and the late Gracie Bowen Fletcher and was married to Hazel Bowes Fletcher. Mr. Fletcher was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from J.P. Stevens after 50 years. John was a part of the construction of John H. Kerr Dam. He was a member of Union Christian Church. Mr. Fletcher loved the Bible, cooking, reading westerns, and visiting people. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Bowes Fletcher; three daughters, Carolyn Pulliam and husband, Mason, Linda Chandler and husband, Roger, and Brenda Glasscock and husband, Michael, all of Virgilina, VA; one brother, Alfred Fletcher; two sisters, Claire Jean Gordon and Joyce Graham; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. in Virgilina Cemetery with the Reverend Carroll Glasscock and the Reverend Norman Talley officiating. The family will receive friends at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and at other times at the home.
