John Wayne Hammock

Mr. John Wayne Hammock of 3029 Clays Mill Rd., Halifax died Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at the age of 62. He was born in Halifax County on October 30, 1948 to the late James D. and Marie Tuck Hammock. Mr. Hammock was a carpenter. Survivors include a son, John Hammock, Jr. and wife, Vanessa of Cluster Springs; a daughter, Melanie Rice and husband, Tracy of Newport News; three brothers, Stafford Hammock of Halifax, Kenneth Hammock of Halifax, and Earl Hammock of Brookneal; three sisters, Rachel Clay and husband, Frank of Halifax, Francis St. John of Naruna, and Margaret Morton of Charlotte Court House; and five grandchildren, Caleb Hammock, Christopher Hudson, Christian Hammock, Thomas Rice, and Nikole Rice. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Otie Hammock. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 11:00 AM in Clover Bottom Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Jimmy McMillan officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of John and Vanessa Hammock, 8184 Huell Matthews Hwy, Alton, VA.
